Danny brought the flower to his lips and gulped its nectar. He felt a warm glow in his core that radiated to all parts of his body.

“Looks like you don’t need me anymore, dipstick,” Ember told him sadly. “Kissing you was kinda fun.”

Danny lifted her head. “It doesn’t have to end,” he murmured.

“Do you really have to go?” Sam whined; which Danny thought, really wasn’t like her.

“I don’t have a choice, Sam,” he gently reminded her. He shoved her away before their skin made contact.

“Still can’t abide human touch?” Tucker asked, meeting them on school’s front steps.

“Yes,” Danny answered truthfully. “I’m sorry, guys, but Clockwork has informed me that by the seventeenth hour, I will be taken from this world.”

“Is that why we celebrated your fifteenth birthday three months early yesterday?” asked Tucker.

“Yes,” came the reply

“Then I’m gonna kick your butt in Doom!” Tucker crowed.

“Not if I kick yours first,” Sam grinned. “Sorry, Danny, about my behaviour. I’m acting like Paulina would if she’d found out she gained a pound. I really wish…”

Danny silenced her with a kiss. “Don’t wish,” he murmured, pulling away from her.

Sam nodded, touching her fingers to her lips.

“Can we come visit?” Tucker cut in, as they grabbed their books and headed to death-by-English Lit, which was taught by none other than Satan himself–uh, I mean, Mr. Lancer.

“Only if Clockwork gives you the coordinates,” Danny said, opening the door for his friends.

“Welcome to class, babypop,” Ember greeted him, pulling him into a searing kiss. Danny’s eyes widened in surprise and he dropped his books. Energy coursed through his veins as he took the gift she offered and reciprocated.

Mr. Lancer watched in horror and disgust as the half-human boy locked lips with the gorgeous ghostly rocker. Before he could break them up, aqua-black fire spiralled around them, whisking them away.

“I guess it was sooner,” Tucker whispered to Sam. “Don’t worry, we’ll see him again. I promise.”
